The Client

Nature’s Way is a family-owned business that has been operating almost 40 years on the mission of “bringing wildlife back to your yard in a sustainable, enriching and enjoyable way – just like nature intended.” This company manufactures and sells a wide selection of bird products. In addition to their bird houses and feeders, they also sell an assortment of insect houses. To raise awareness about the sharp decline in honeybee populations and to promote the importance of “power pollinators,” Nature’s way has created a collection of pollinator houses that they sell on their website and install in local community gardens.

The Task

Sitting on the shelf in the garden center at Lowe’s Home Improvement, the Nature’s Way pollinator house did not succeed in standing out among the other colorful and fun garden products sitting around it. Even more, when viewing this product’s listing online, the label and packaging is not present at all in the photos provided. To make this product stand out and have a label worthy of being advertised, I created a new rendering of this pollinator house packaging and mocked it up – label and all.

What I Did

I transformed the product’s label from dull and muted, into a fun and colorful graphic that would not only draw in much more attention on the shelf, but carry out a unique narrative as well. The tagline “create your kingdom” refers to how the solitary bees who make use of pollinator houses are not part of a colony and do not have a queen. The left side of the label says “The Queen is not the only one who deserves a castle,” furthering the narrative that these pollinator houses serve as the castle in which these solitary bees can rule. To make the product pop even more, I honed in on using fun, bright colors that contrasted with the color of the actual product. To display what this new packaging would look like on the actual product, I used an infinity table and lights to create my own mockups of this design placed onto the pollinator house as a tangible label.
