The Client

Burlington Animal Services is a public animal shelter and adoption center serving Alamance County and surrounding areas in North Carolina. Additionally, this organization also carries out the enforcement of laws pertaining to animal issues in the City of Burlington, operates a feral cat trap and release program and oversees the Spay & Neuter Clinic of Alamance County.

The Task

Beginning in February of 2022, I joined the Burlington Animal Services (BAS) team as a marketing intern for the duration of my spring semester. During the fall of 2020, the organization introduced “The Perfect Blend” coffee sleeve campaign in partnership with local coffee shops in the Burlington/Alamance County area. This coffee sleeve was created as a promotional fundraising material to bring awareness to BAS and encourage the community to make a donation to the shelter. I was tasked with creating a fresh continuation of the original coffee sleeve design for 2022, and prompted to introduce a corresponding brochure to post on the counters of the local coffee shops participating in “The Perfect Blend” campaign.

What I Did

While carrying over a few elements from the original coffee sleeve design — including the logo style and QR code linking to the BAS donations page on their website —  I added breadth to the narrative with the introduction of a wider color palette and subtle, yet attention-grabbing graphic components.

I also developed a promotional flyer to pair with the coffee sleeve, using a more colorful and illustrative design as a means to guide the public’s eyes to the contextual side of this campaign. This flyer tunes into the ethos of the project and grabs the attention of its intended audience through infographic components highlighting the importance of not only the shelter’s work, but more importantly the contributions of the community.
